Securing a sustainable future is imperative as we confront the critical challenges posed by climate change, including extreme weather events that threaten food security, rising sea levels that harm coastal communities, and increasingly severe flash floods that disrupt the lives and livelihoods of the vulnerable. Through deliberate actions, such as implementing green policies, we can create a more equitable, livable, and sustainable country for everyone. In response, Malaysia has taken decisive steps to address the challenge of climate change by introducing an updated policy.
The National Climate Change Policy 2.0 (NCCP 2.0) was launched in September 2024. This updated policy aims to reduce carbon emissions, transition to a low-carbon economy, and ultimately enhance Malaysia’s climate resilience. NCCP 2.0 serves as a framework for Malaysia to become one of the countries that achieves net-zero emissions by 2050. The Malaysian government is making significant strides towards achieving this goal by continuously contributing to climate change mitigation, notably by introducing several green initiatives.
NCCP 2.0 aligns with relevant climate policies, such as the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), to tackle the climate crisis by promoting a transition to greener energy sources, ultimately driving the nation toward its goal of a resilient economy and enabling a true shift toward decarbonisation. The NCCP 2.0 is structured to achieve its goals through a framework comprising four main objectives, five strategic thrusts, fifteen strategies, and ninety key actions to guide Malaysia’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

In conclusion, Malaysia’s commitment to addressing the challenges of climate change through the National Climate Change Policy 2.0 (NCCP 2.0) marks a significant step toward building a low-carbon and resilient nation. With a clear framework designed to strengthen climate governance, the policy outlines a comprehensive approach that includes strategic initiatives and authoritative guidelines for developing environmental regulations, steering Malaysia on its path to climate resilience and a low-carbon economy.
